MS MUSIC

The Middle School (MS) Music program is intended to provide a global perspective on different concepts through exposure to World Music and the assorted music instruments related to these genres (Grade 6); their history (Grade 7 focus) and playing and performance techniques (Grade 8 focus).

Grade 6 (Q1)

In their World Music unit, the focus instrument was the steelpan.

Grade 6 (Q2)

In their Watch Me Create! unit students explored methods of Music creation. Here this student elected to use a piano to create.

Grade 6 (Q3)

Here they used an online drum machine to create.

Grade 7

Grade 7 (s1)

To explore the concept of Form students created and performed tone poems using unconventional instruments.

Grade 7

In their Roots in Our 'Folk' unit students looked at identity by exploring Africa through learning how to play Ibo (an African rhythm).

Grade 7 (S2)

Student creativity was later exposed through composition and live audio mastery on a choice of instruments.

These students created using the steelpan.

Other students chose to create via digital software like Garageband.

Grade 8

Band unit 1

Students explored and expanded their personal taste and understanding of the Aesthetic through instrument and repertoire choices within the Structure of a band.

Students explore Change through overcoming personal boundaries as they learned basic keyboard techniques.

Grade 8 Guitar module

Personal change was also gauged through techniques on guitar.
