Theatre at ISPS

The Drama Curriculum at ISPS teaches students from ninth to twelfth grades valuable resources and skills that they can use beyond the stage, in all aspects of life, such as confidence, imagination, responsibility, honesty, courage, respect and trust. In addition to the fundamentals of acting, theater history and literature, dramatic structure and various techniques, they also learn public speaking skills and teamwork, and improve concentration and memorization. The predominant acting method taught is The Meisner Technique, though we do explore other methods of the craft, most stemming from the teachings of Konstantin Stanislavsky, and also practice Improvisation. Over the course, students find themselves growing artistically, personally and intellectually.

They often perform for their peers and wider audiences in a variety of different mediums. Twice a year they are expected to participate in the school play, which is open to the public. They have the choice to audition for a role or experience areas related to the stage such as set design, costume design, stage crew and management, hair and makeup, sound and lighting design, scriptwriting and direction. There are also unique opportunities that arise throughout the year, such as auditioning for the Trinidad and Tobago film and television industry.

Recent productions were Ten and Two (2010), Godspell (2011), 16 (2011), Anne Frank & Me (2012), Voices From The High School (2012), the production of OZ (2013), the musical High School Confidential (June 2015), and SELFIE (December 2015).
